Amazing scenery, as you cycle or drive past farms in the area. These routes are all on bakkie-roads and not technical. In Suurbraak and Malgas there are cafes where you can buy water, Bar-one, Energade, Simba Chips etc. At the Breede River Trading Post in Malgas there is a toilet as well. These routes are perfect for a gravel bike.

 

A good place to start most of these routes are in Swellendam or at Oude Post Bistro & BP Fill Station in Buffeljags. Oude Post Bistro has great coffee, parking and playing area for children. 

 

Crossing the Breede River on the Malgas Pont is quite an experience. Until 2020 the last hand-pulled one in South Africa. Due to safety reasons as well as the demand for a bigger one that can handle bigger tractors and other farm equipment, it was replaced with a much bigger one.

NON-MOTORIZED VEHICLES (Bicycles and Pedestrians): Will not be taken across on their own. If you are on your bicycle you cannot insist that the operator take you across. Buy a ice cream at the Malgas Shop and wait for a vehicle to cross. Be aware that the new ferry is quite fast - so do not miss the boat. You know what I mean.
