The trails are the property of the Swellendam Municipality, and users enter and use at own risk. The Municipality or its employees will not be held responsible for any loss or damage to private property or injuries to any person, property or animal howsoever caused upon entering this premises. The Swellendam Municipality cannot guarantee the safety of any person entering the property. All legislation, including municipal by-laws, must be complied with by any person entering the property.

The purpose of use is for running, walking, equestrianism, and cycling.
Access for all motorised vehicles is restricted to emergency and maintenance vehicles. Along with official municipal vehicles, Swellendam Cycling Club vehicles are
also permitted for maintenance of the MTB trails.

Please note that the following is strictly prohibited and is a fineable offense of R500:

  • Unsupervised children under the age of 14

  • Dumping of any kind

  • All motorised vehicles, including quad bikes

  • Illegal tree felling

  • Dogs not on a leash

  • Any water-based activities

  • Camping and other forms of overnight stay

  • Picnicking

  • Fires

  • Loud music or noise

TRAIL RULES & REGULATIONS

PLEASE RIDE ON MARKED TRAILS ONLY

RESPECT:

  • the landscape

  • your local trail builder

  • keeping single track SINGLE
    staying on the trail

  • Please leave nothing behind

  • Please DO NOT ride muddy trails

  • Please ride through standing water, not around it

  • Please ride (or walk) technical features, not around them

BE COURTEOUS

  • trails are multi-use

  • mountain bikers please yield to horses and foot traffic

  • descending riders please yield to climbing riders
    be nice and say hi

RIDE IN CONTROL:

  • speed, inattentiveness and rudeness are a cause of future trouble

  • If you need to pass, slow down, ring a bell or verbally announce yourself

  • wait until the other trail user is out of the path

  • use extra caution around horses, as animals are
    unpredictable

  • be very aware when riding trails with poor sight lines and blind corners

PLAN AHEAD:

  • be prepared and self-sufficient

  • carry what you might need
    download the trails onto your phone via
    www.swellendamtrails.com

  • OR carry a map
    ride with a partner or share your riding plan with a friend

MIND THE ANIMALS:

  • All animals are unpredictable as well as fearful of
    human interaction and should be avoided at all costs.
