HOW LONG AND TOUGH IS THIS HIKE:
Distance = 12km
Climb = 1200m
Direction = up and down on same route
Total Hiking time = 8 hours
How much water = at least 2 liters
How much food = about 8 snacks (banana, handful of dates, small packet of chips, peanut butter-and-honey sandwich, biltong.)
Hot tip: If you have hiking sticks - use them. They will help a lot on the descent. And pack a cool bag full of ice, soft drinks and beer and leave it in your vehicle where you start the hike. Lots of ice. On your return that beer or soft drink will be the best one you have ever tasted.
HOW EARLY SHOULD YOU START:
In the summer you should start as the sun rises, not when the Marloth office opens. Next to the Marloth office there is a building where you can issue yourself a permit. Pay the conservation fee on your return. No hiking allowed in the dark.

*If you want to start hiking before the Marloth Office opens, you can issue yourself a permit at the building between the office and Marloth's main gate. This must be done for safety reasons. When you return after the hike, please remember to pay the entrance fee.

HOW DO I GET TO THE START OF THIS HIKE:
> Drive 2.5km from the Drostdy to Marloth Main Office.
> Get your CapeNature permit at the Marloth Office. You can start hiking from here or drive 800m on bakkie road (in Marloth Nature Reserve) up to a parking area where +- 4 cars can park.

CAN I FILL UP MY WATER BOTTLE ALONG THE WAY:
Yes, but these spots are located in the bottom half of the trail. The first time you pass these water points you will not feel the need to fill up and by the time you pass it on the return you will look like a raisin and feel like a prune if you had no water with you. So rather carry the 2 liters of water on you.
