Koloniesbos

HOW LONG AND TOUGH IS THIS ROUTE:

Distance = 2km

Climb = 150m

Total Hiking time = 70minutes

HOW DO I GET TO THE START OF THIS HIKE:

> Drive 2.5km from the Drotsdy to Marloth Main Office.

> Get your CapeNature permit and drive 3.8km on bakkie road (in Marloth Nature Reserve) up to Koloniesbos parking area.

GENERAL NOTES:

> This is a circular route. First you go up and then you come down. The route runs anti-clockwise. The 600m from the parking area to the official start of the circular trail is included in this 70 minutes.

> The first 600m is in the open with no shade to protect you from the sun.

> The next 900m form part of a circular route (where most of the time and hiking is spent) and you will be in dense forest.

> The only fresh water on this route is from the river, so remember to take your own.

> There is a picnic bench at the Koloniesbos Parking area.

> Would I have hiked this route on honeymoon? Definitely.

> Children can hike this route, but grownups should not underestimate it.

> This is the easiest route to hike in Marloth Nature Reserve.

> Children aged 5&6 years old should be able to hike this route. With friends along they go 50% faster.
> Because the pools are smaller and trail less steep than at Duiwelsbos, you will worry less about your childrens' safety.

> Duiwelsbos and Koloniesbos use the same parking area. When looking at the mountain, Koloniesbos is to your left.

> In 2017  Tree name tags  have been added to help you identify different tree species!

> Do you need a 4x4 in Marloth? No.
